James Finnerty – portrait of a local musician

0443

James Finnerty is a wonderful musician I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to when he opened up for my husband Matt Lipscombe at the Centre St-Ambroise last April. His music is so enchanting – just a man and his guitar and a microphone on stage and I couldn’t help but be pulled into his magic. There is so much talent flowing from this young musician, I sincerely cannot wait for a full length album from him.

My parents had come for the show and they bought his gorgeously packaged debut EP which means something, I cannot even remember the last time my parents bought music of any kind! They are from the hippie era – listening to the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel and I think that James won them over and brought them back to their heydays of being young and carefree. Even I cannot stop listening to his beautifully crafted self-titled EP.  I also like the fact that he plays a Norman, like me – although his guitar is a lot nicer!

You can check him out on his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/jamesfinnertymusic

James and I did a photo session in the Mile End recently and I’m so excited to blog some of my favorite photos from our session. Please don’t mind the watermarks, they are still in proof mode. I’m breaking some of the very old classic rules of photography with the sun flares and backlighting but I don’t care! I think they look great – and rules are meant to be broken anyhow;-)

Vivian Darling, you are on fire! These frames are hot! Your talent is consistent, yet you surprise me with each new batch of proofs I see. You have gained enormous ground in such a relatively a short time. Your experience and acute eye does not let that sweet moment go uncaptured. At this rate, I can already envision a coffee table book with your name on the cover:)
