I had this idea of using the corner of St-Laurent Boulevard and Duluth, but the funny thing is that I was aiming at capturing the friperie on the corner including the street lamp and the image was just not really happening the way I had pictured it. Then I looked up Duluth, from the street corner where I was standing and I saw the slick of the pavement with the hint of Mont Royal in the back and the sunlight kind of streaking in from behind and I immediately changed the concept. No more traffic light, just the crossing and on the last shot of Matt crossing the street about 20 times, we got the shot! I already knew in my head at that point that I was shooting for a Bob Dylan style cover and I knew I wanted it in Black and White. It goes to show how an initial idea is not always the one you will end up with in the end, I’m so glad that it metamorphosed into this, which is infinitely better. I love what I do!

James Finnerty is a wonderful musician I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to when he opened up for my husband Matt Lipscombe at the Centre St-Ambroise last April. His music is so enchanting – just a man and his guitar and a microphone on stage and I couldn’t help but be pulled into his magic. There is so much talent flowing from this young musician, I sincerely cannot wait for a full length album from him.

My parents had come for the show and they bought his gorgeously packaged debut EP which means something, I cannot even remember the last time my parents bought music of any kind! They are from the hippie era – listening to the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel and I think that James won them over and brought them back to their heydays of being young and carefree. Even I cannot stop listening to his beautifully crafted self-titled EP. I also like the fact that he plays a Norman, like me – although his guitar is a lot nicer!

You can check him out on his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/jamesfinnertymusic

James and I did a photo session in the Mile End recently and I’m so excited to blog some of my favorite photos from our session. Please don’t mind the watermarks, they are still in proof mode. I’m breaking some of the very old classic rules of photography with the sun flares and backlighting but I don’t care! I think they look great – and rules are meant to be broken anyhow

My husband Matt Lipscombe and his cousin Andrew have formed a kind of folky blues duo named “The Lipscombes” recently and they are really a hoot to watch! I’ll post some photos of their latest show but here is a poster I made for their upcoming show in Quebec City. I took this photo at Andrew’s place, next to the infamous closet recording studio. These guys are so funny – they just lock themselves into this tiny little closet (literally) and jam all day long. They’ve got what people would call a Bromance going on… cracks me up.

Unfortunately I wont be able to make it to the show in Quebec City as that is a huge shooting week-end for me – I’m shooting a bar mitzvah, a baptism and a family photo session so I wont be able to go up to the romantic old city to watch them perform.
