I love it when I get to watch kids grow. Some clients call me every year and so I have the honour of seeing the little wee ones grow into into beautiful big kids. The first time I photographed this little one was when she was just a baby and now she’s a stunning little girl. We had a wonderful session with mommy and daddy and grandma and a pretty red dress! Thanks for being such great models!

Here is another lovely session with a family of 4 – it’s been a while since they had their little newborn but I am still just catching up and wanted to share how lovely spring can be with big magnolia trees! It was a beautiful warm day and the light was beautiful.

Another one of my family sessions from the past year, taken during magic hour at the bird sanctuary in Lasalle. I love this spot and I brought so many families here in the past couple of years. The setting is just lovely for that kind of dreamy family portrait. So this is a family of 5 with one more on the way. You would think that shooting a family of five might have seemed a daunting task but the children were absolute darlings who were very good at listening to me, and knowing how to flash their winning smiles. What a delight! I think the parents have trained them well and I wish I knew their secret!

I had the chance to photograph Leanne Vogel, holistic nutritionist extraordinaire who runs the website www.healthfulpursuit.com. We did some new shots for her new website that is coming very soon.

I have to admit that it was such a great session and I think that part of the reason, other than the fact that we jived together so well, if that we were well prepared for the shoot. We did a lot of preparation on both ends to figure out wardrobe and locations. I scouted a number of key spots in our fair city based on what Leanne was looking for. We chose the train yard in the Mile End, charming Rue Berri between Rachel and Duluth, the Gay Village and Beaubien park. We also decided to do the shoot late in the afternoon, so that we could get magic hour for the yoga shot in Beaubien Park.

Leanne just got married this spring and I wish I could have photographed her wedding too but she moved away earlier this year to Alberta. Good luck Leanne, thanks for being such a lovely model!

Is it possible to top this session? It happened a while back but since I am very extremely behind in blogging, I could not miss posting this big family session. We booked an entire afternoon and I drove up with my husband and son, who are not in these photos, and spent some quality time taking photos of this very interesting, very zany family. They have a lovely property in Sutton and it ended at magic hour, with the sun low and the photos dreamy! The photos are real, sometimes kids are not always paying attention but I actually love that about the photos. It’s real life. Do young children really spend all their time smiling at us? No! They are who they are!

Also, just a tip, the beauty of magic hour, when the sun is low and the light is amazing doesn’t always work with the timelines of toddlers and young children. So that being said, sometimes it is a toss up as to when to do the session. Do you go for the magic light? Or shoot earlier in the day with kids who are not so tired and hungry? We chose the first option and I am very happy with the results even if the kids were a little wild! I love the wildness in kids anyhow…
